what thickness drywall should I put on my ceiling
It is a small basement room (250 sq. ft.). l wanna soundproof and be
reasonable about putting something up. Would 5/8'' be good or 3/4''? l do
not know if it can be ''too heavy'' for a ceiling. Really have not done it
before. Thanks!
If your joists are on 16 inch centers 1/2 would be fine. If
they are on 24 I would use 5/8 to prevent any waving later on.
half and inch...
Doesn't really matter how thick the drywall is, if you want to
soundproof, you need acoustic insulation.
1/2'' meets code, and is what I've often used.
If you are trying to sound proof use a thicker insulation and
go with 1/2'' sheetrock. You really aren't going to get that much more
sound proofing from the 5/8''.
5/8'' is good
